Going Green - Gibbon Bridge Hotel Green Policy

Here at The Gibbon Bridge Hotel we recognise that we have environmental responsibility and  are committed to working towards a sustainable future, aiming to become a more environmentally friendly hotel.

The Forest of Bowland was the first protected area in England to be awarded the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism.

We have joined the Green Tourism Business Scheme as an indicator of our sustainable practices and a delighted to have been accredited a Silver Award.

What we are doing:

Help us, help our environment by being a green visitor.

Protecting the Environment

Our policy is to recycle as much of the hotel waste as the local facilities allow. Our staff also separate bottles, cans and papers collected from rooms, and with the co-operation of our guests, towels are only changed on request. We take the obvious steps like using energy saving lamps where possible and are always looking for new ways to reduce our environmental impact.

We have now written a Visitor charter that is included in all our room welcome folders. This aims to encourage our guests to consider how they can minimise the environmental impact of their stay in our hotel and The Forest of Bowland.

Responsible Visitor Charter - Gibbon Bridge Hotel

Wherever we go and whatever we do, we have an impact!

Conserve Energy - Reduce energy by switching off lights, switch T.V from ‘stand by’ to ‘off’ and close doors and windows if heating is on.  Let us continue to see the stars at night in rural Lancashire.

Save Water – Take a shower rather than a bath. Turn off taps while brushing teeth, shaving or washing.  Make your towels last. Use low flush on toilet and check taps are not dripping.

Shop Locally – Please support our local communities.  We are fortunate to have superb producers of food, drink and arts and crafts in the region with local markets at Longridge, Clitheroe, Garstang and Skipton. Ask at Reception for details or why not try our homemade bread, cakes and preserves available to order from our Bakery.

Leave The Car - Give the car a rest.  Try walking, cycling or use public transport.  If you must make that trip in the car try car sharing.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle – Try to recycle any waste or packaging. Say ‘N0’ to that extra carrier bag and overly packed goods.

Respect Nature – Please respect our area of outstanding natural beauty.  Use designated footpaths and cycle ways. Guard against fire.  Do not distress wildlife by trampling their natural habitat.

Follow the Countryside Code – The code reminds us all to protect, respect and enjoy: look after plants and animals; take litter home and recycle; leave gates and property as you find them; keep dogs under close control and consider other people.

Support Green Tourism Businesses – Hundred of businesses are trying to reduce their environmental impact through the Green Tourism Business Scheme.

It is time to think how our actions affect the air we breathe, the water we drink and the communities we live in.
