Food to get you in the mood . . .

* Mushrooms - are rich in zinc and believed to be a great source of sexual energy.

* Oxtail - the high gelatine content provides high aphrodisiac potential.

* Nuts - Like oysters, they are high in zinc. Nuts have been used for centuries to make up love potions. The medical scholar Galen recommended eating one hundred pine nuts before going to bed!

* Dill - In medieval times it was believed to protect against witchcraft and magic, although dill itself was an ingredient in many magic potions. It was also believed to be an aphrodisiac, and so women added dill to men's wine, to boost their passion and endurance.

* Scallops - The most well-known aphrodisiacs are oysters and clams. Other seafood items that can improve potency include lobster and scallops.

* Truffles - the subterranean fungus with divinely musky scent smell of human pheromones.

* Beef and Duck - Protein-rich lean red meat boosts level of reward hormone dopamine and norepinephrine, which increases the heart rate. Both, according to studies at the University of Texas, may be important in female arousal. Not that they aren’t great for men too, with a good dose of zinc!

* Chocolate - like all our food at the Gibbon Bridge, our chocolate is homemade with love. Containing phenylethylamine (PEA), for the release of endorphins, chocolate is one of the most potent reported aphrodisiacs.

* Beets - A high dose of tryptophan that comes with beets relax the mind and create a sense of well-being - and that's what aphrodisiacs are all about.

* Watermelon - citruline that, just like medical libido boosters, relaxes the blood vessels and its colour is visually stimulating say studies.
